Programs Provided by Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara 1. Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8 The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara offers housing assistance to low income residents through these two programs. Eligibility requirements for both programs are income-based and set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). However, due to the high demand for housing assistance in the area, there may be a waiting list for vouchers or rentals. At times, these waiting lists may even close to new applicants. 2. This assistance is specifically offered to individuals earning less than 80% of the Areas Median Income who do not qualify for other housing programs. How to Obtain Housing Assistance If you are in need of housing assistance in the Santa Barbara area, please contact the Housing Authority directly. They will be able to provide you with more information regarding program eligibility requirements, availability of assistance or rentals, the status of any waiting lists, and the application procedures.
