History of West Palm Beach Housing Authority In 1938, the West Palm Beach Housing Authority was established with the aim of providing affordable housing options to low income individuals and families in the region. This came shortly after the passage of The Housing Act in 1937. The authority became the 7th housing authority to launch in Florida, cementing its dedication to serving the community. Public Housing Apartments Presently, the West Palm Beach Housing Authority owns, operates, and maintains a total of 712 public housing apartments. These are spread across five different communities in West Palm Beach. The authority takes pride in providing safe and comfortable living spaces for those in need. Housing Choice Voucher Program Alongside the public housing apartments, the West Palm Beach Housing Authority manages the Housing Choice Voucher Program, which was previously known as the Section 8 certificate and voucher program. Currently, the authority has contracts with nearly 3000 apartments and homes under this program. The program assists eligible families by providing rental assistance, allowing them to pay a portion of their rent to private market landlords. Current Housing Developments The West Palm Beach Housing Authority is actively involved in the development of housing projects in the area. Some of the notable communities under their care include Dunbar Village, Southridge, Twin Lakes, Robinson Village, and Pleasant City. These developments not only offer housing options but also contribute to the overall improvement of the region. Waiting List and Contact Information It is important to note that there may be a waiting list for rental apartments in the agency communities as well as for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. To obtain more information on the programs and to check for availability, it is recommended to contact the West Palm Beach Housing Authority directly.
