Different Housing Programs Offered by the Housing Authority of the City of Americus The Housing Authority of the City of Americus is committed to providing housing assistance to low-income residents. They manage various programs to cater to the needs of the community, including the Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8. Income-Based Criteria and Eligibility Guidelines Both the Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8 are income-based programs. The eligibility guidelines for these programs are established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Management of Public Housing Rentals and Vouchers Currently, the Housing Authority of the City of Americus oversees 480 Public Housing Rentals and 716 vouchers. However, due to the high demand for housing assistance in the area, there may be waiting lists for some of these rentals and vouchers. Sometimes, these waiting lists may be temporarily closed to new applicants, depending on their length and the number of people already waiting. Their office is open Monday - Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm to assist you. Current Status of Waiting Lists As of the last update in July 2011, the Housing Authority's website indicated that their Public Housing waiting list was open for new applications. However, their HCV - Section 8 waiting list was closed at that time.
