Low-Income Public Housing - Aims to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing options for the low-income population of Geauga County. 2. Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) - Assists eligible households in obtaining affordable rental housing in the private market. Office Hours: - Tuesdays: 9:30am-11:30am - Wednesdays: 2:00pm-4:00pm Qualifications for Housing Assistance: 1. Income Requirement - Adjusted gross family income should be within federally designated low-income limits (less than or equal to 80% of the median household income for the area). 2. Compliance with Lease Agreement - Applicants must agree to comply with the GMHA lease agreement. 3. Social Security Number or Supporting Documentation - Must have a Social Security number or provide documentation supporting its non-existence. 4. Good Standing with GMHA and Other Subsidized Housing Programs - No overdue balances with GMHA or any other subsidized housing program in which they have participated in the past. 5. Gas and Electric Utilities - Family units must be able to get gas and electric utilities in their name (verification through a credit check). Preference Points for Housing Allocation: Preference points are given to: - Those employed and residing in Geauga County - Veterans or widows of veterans - Individuals aged 62 or older - Recipients of Social Security Disability, SSI Disability, or other payments due to inability to work. Ranking Criteria for Applicants: - In case of the same preference points, the date and time of application are considered in the ranking. Criminal Background Check: - Applicants must pass a criminal background check. Rent Structure: - Rent is generally 30% of the family's adjusted gross income, up to a flat ceiling rent for each unit.
