Housing Assistance Programs Offered by Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority (PMHA) Portfolio of Housing Options Affordable, safe, and decent permanent housing options are provided by PMHA for families, disabled individuals, and senior citizens. Housing Subsidy Programs PMHA also manages housing subsidy programs that enable households to rent or own affordable housing. These programs ensure that individuals have access to decent and permanent housing arrangements. Collaboration with Aid Agencies Although emergency assistance for housing or utilities is not directly offered by PMHA, close collaborations are maintained with various agencies that can provide such aid when required. PMHA Owned Units Public Housing Primarily, PMHA owns and manages public housing properties. Rent is determined based on household income, with the federal government providing subsidies to cover the remaining operational and maintenance costs. PMHA currently possesses 303 units of Public Housing. Market-Rate Housing Additionally, PMHA owns and operates 27 units of market-rate housing located in Kent. Unlike government-subsidized properties, these units are managed to provide both affordable housing and generate non-HUD income for the housing authority. This income is utilized to further PMHA's mission throughout the county.
