Assisting Homeless Families: Westmoreland Community Action Provides Support for Independent Living Program Overview: Westmoreland Community Action offers comprehensive assistance to homeless families, empowering them with the necessary skills to live independently and find safe, permanent housing. Through a range of services, enrolled families receive temporary housing, case management, life skills training, transportation assistance, budgeting and nutritional counseling, referrals to community services, intervention and advocacy for children in schools, mental health referrals, as well as basic furniture and supplies. Eligibility Criteria for Next Steps Supportive Housing Program: The Next Steps Supportive Housing Program caters to homeless families, pregnant women aged 18 and above, and individuals in the process of securing legal custody of a child under 18. To be considered homeless, families must be residing in an emergency shelter, transitional supportive housing, or unsuitable places like cars, parks, sidewalks, or abandoned buildings. Additionally, families facing eviction within a week, with no alternative place to go and lacking the necessary resources and support networks for obtaining housing, are also eligible for this program.
