Founding and Mission of Tabor Tabor's Origins and Purpose Tabor was established in 1968 by a group of individuals from the Mennonite Community in Lancaster. Their primary goal was to assist low-income families in finding suitable housing and managing their finances effectively. This mission was driven by their belief in acting upon the scriptural call to demonstrate compassion for others and to promote unity within the community. Expanding Services for the Community Over the years, Tabor has grown and expanded its services to cater to a diverse range of housing and financial challenges faced by individuals. With a multitude of programs and initiatives in place, Tabor strives to provide effective solutions for those in need. Additionally, the organization has taken the initiative to kickstart community revitalization projects in the area where its offices are located within Lancaster City. Accreditation and Recognition Tabor's Achievements and Recognitions Tabor's dedication to its mission and the quality of its programs and services have not gone unnoticed. The organization became a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency in 1968 and obtained membership in the National Foundation for Credit Counseling in 1988. Since 1998, Tabor has proudly maintained accreditation from the Council on Accreditation. Tabor's excellence in its operations and contribution to the Lancaster community have been acknowledged by various esteemed organizations. The National Foundation for Credit Counseling, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, Central Penn Business Journal, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission, and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency have all recognized Tabor's outstanding contributions.
