Title: Lynhaven Apartments - A Charming Community in Alexandria Introduction: Lynhaven Apartments is a charming residential complex offering 27 garden apartments situated in a serene tree-lined neighborhood in the City of Alexandria. Nestled within beautifully landscaped grounds, this community provides a peaceful and delightful living environment for its residents. Property Description: Among the 27 apartments, there are 5 one-bedroom units and 22 two-bedroom units, catering to various housing needs. Wesley Housing, the entity responsible for managing the property, ensures affordability by maintaining 16 units as affordable housing. Notably, four of these units are specially designated for formerly homeless families transitioning from Carpenter's Shelter. The remaining units are leased at market rates. Amenities and Location: The apartments boast several amenities, including a brand-new roof, thermal pane windows, air conditioning, attractive landscaping, and secure fencing. Lynhaven Apartments also enjoys an advantageous location, being in close proximity to Cora Kelly Magnet Elementary School and the Cora Kelly Recreation Center. Leasing Information: To inquire about leasing these desirable apartments, interested individuals can contact the leasing office at (703) 548-0093. History and Partnerships: In June 2002, an innovative collaborative effort was undertaken to preserve and restore Lynhaven Apartments. Wesley Housing, Carpenter's Shelter (Northern Virginia's largest homeless shelter), and the City of Alexandria worked together toward this goal. Carpenter's Shelter pledged a generous $250,000 to support the provision of four apartments for formerly homeless families in transition. The City of Alexandria played a significant role by approving a loan of $325,000 from its Housing Trust Fund (HTF). This fund, comprised of fees paid by developers, aims to subsidize affordable housing projects in the area. The renovation of Lynhaven Apartments became the City's first public/private partnership using HTF funds. Wesley Housing showcased their commitment by investing $210,000 of its resources to rehabilitate the apartments. To assist with this effort, the Virginia Housing Preservation Fund (VHPF) awarded Wesley Housing a $75,000 loan, making it one of only 11 loans of its kind given in 2002. The rehabilitation process, completed in the summer of 2003, encompassed a comprehensive makeover of the property, including the installation of new roofs and furnaces, thermal pane windows, attractive landscaping, and fresh paint, carpeting, appliances, and bathroom fixtures in select apartments. Exceptionally, both the purchase and rehabilitation were carried out without causing any displacement of residents. Partnerships: The successful preservation and restoration of Lynhaven Apartments was made possible by the collaboration between Carpenter's Shelter and the City of Alexandria.
