Office Hours Our office is open from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm. Winooski Housing Authority Properties The Winooski Housing Authority (WHA) manages various housing units, both subsidized and nonsubsidized. In the City of Winooski, we offer 238 Public Housing apartments, 100 Section 8 Multi-family apartments, and 26 units of affordable, nonsubsidized apartments. Additionally, we manage 19 units of affordable, nonsubsidized apartments in Burlington. Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) The Winooski Housing Authority administers the HCVP, which provides rental assistance to eligible families. This program is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and follows their rules and regulations. The Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers can be used within a six-mile radius of the Winooski city line. Eligibility To qualify for the HCVP, applicants must have a household income at or below 50% of the area median income. Other eligibility criteria include citizenship or eligible immigrant status, no recent record of violent or drug-related criminal activity, and no outstanding rent or debts to any Public Housing Authority or housing program. Availability Due to high demand, there is a waiting list for the HCVP. Once a family is determined to be eligible, they are placed on the waiting list. When funding becomes available, we will re-verify eligibility and issue a voucher to the family. After finding an eligible unit, the WHA enters into a contract with the owner, and the family signs a lease agreement. Both the WHA and the family are responsible for their respective portions of the rent. Mobility Choices Eligible families have the option to utilize mobility choices, also known as portability. This allows them to search for housing within the WHA's jurisdiction or move to another jurisdiction using the portability option. Managed Properties Conger Avenue Apartments Chittenden Housing Corporation owns 19 units of affordable housing at Conger Avenue in Burlington. The WHA acts as the managing agent for these apartments. Main Street Apartments The WHA also manages 26 units of affordable housing on Main Street in Winooski. Similar to the Conger Avenue property, these apartments are affordable but not subsidized. The Main Street apartments provide 24-hour on-call emergency maintenance, off-street parking, and on-site laundry facilities.
